With its carbon\u2011fiber\u2011sleeved 360\u2011volt motor producing\u00a0<strong data-start=\"192\" data-end=\"207\">up to 80\u00a0hp<\/strong>, and a\u00a0<strong data-start=\"215\" data-end=\"234\">6.5\u00a0kWh battery<\/strong>\u00a0that could deliver up to six hours of trail riding, it rewrote what an electric dirt bike could be.\u00a0Combined with a\u00a0<strong data-start=\"404\" data-end=\"423\">118\u00a0kg (260\u00a0lb)<\/strong>\u00a0chassis and huge torque (275\u00a0Nm at the countershaft and\u00a0<strong data-start=\"480\" data-end=\"491\">~938\u00a0Nm<\/strong>\u00a0at the rear wheel),\u00a0the original Varg felt like a glimpse of the future.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"1063\">Fast\u2011forward to August\u00a05,\u00a02025: Stark Future unveiled the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"663\" data-end=\"678\">Varg\u00a0MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>, a mid\u2011generation refresh rather than a complete redesign. On paper the specs don\u2019t look wildly different\u2014power figures remain 60\u00a0hp for the standard and 80\u00a0hp for the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"857\">Alpha<\/strong>\u00a0model\u2014but the updates address the original bike\u2019s shortcomings. We took the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"945\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0out for a proper ride to see how it compares to its predecessor and whether the incremental updates justify the hype.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x534dKd5ISs?si=w2RnDJpKYW0nL7tw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2 data-start=\"1137\" data-end=\"1173\">Paper Specs vs. Real\u2011World Riding<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1773\">The original\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1188\" data-end=\"1199\">Varg\u00a0MX<\/strong>\u00a0impressed riders with its instant torque and light feeling chassis, but it had a few quirks. The\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1298\" data-end=\"1328\">6.5 kWh battery<\/strong>\u00a0served as a stressed member of the frame, yet its range varied drastically with rider ability and terrain\u2014Stark promised up to six hours of trail riding or a full motocross heat, but riders often drained it sooner on aggressive sessions. Charging to 80 % took around 1\u20132 hours depending on the outlet, and the chromoly steel frame could feel harsh on square\u2011edge bumps.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"2589\">Throwing a leg over the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1799\" data-end=\"1809\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0reveals subtle but meaningful differences. The\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"1877\">7.2\u00a0kWh battery<\/strong>\u00a0not only increases capacity by about\u00a0<strong>10\u00a0%<\/strong>, and overall range by\u00a0<strong>20%<\/strong>,\u00a0it plays a structural role\u2014Stark says the larger pack improves frame stiffness and thermal performance. In practice, the bike stays hotter for longer laps without noticeable fade. The updated\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2214\">steel\u2011alloy frame<\/strong>\u00a0is about\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2224\" data-end=\"2240\">2\u00a0lb lighter<\/strong>\u00a0and offers more compliant flex around the shock mount; the result is better feedback under braking and less deflection through chatter bumps. A lighter and more efficient\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2450\" data-end=\"2474\">single\u2011speed gearbox<\/strong>\u00a0complements the powertrain improvements.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2591\" data-end=\"3109\">During our test, the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2612\" data-end=\"2622\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0felt more planted entering corners than the old bike. The retuned\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2690\" data-end=\"2708\">KYB suspension<\/strong>\u00a0with revised mid\u2011valve shim stacks offers better hold\u2011up without harshness.\u00a0The bike still pulls like a freight train, but the power is easier to modulate. Riders can still dial power from\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2937\" data-end=\"2949\">10\u201380\u00a0hp<\/strong>\u00a0via the handlebar\u2011mounted phone, yet the updated settings and improved motor efficiency let you ride faster for longer.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3111\" data-end=\"3125\">What\u2019s New?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3127\" data-end=\"3251\">Stark Future calls the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"3150\" data-end=\"3160\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0a \u201csignificant evolution,\u201d and several updates prove that they listened to rider feedback:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3253\" data-end=\"6325\">\n<li data-start=\"3253\" data-end=\"3596\">\n<p data-start=\"3255\" data-end=\"3596\"><strong data-start=\"3255\" data-end=\"3289\">Bigger battery and more range:<\/strong>\u00a0The new\u00a0<strong data-start=\"3298\" data-end=\"3317\">7.2\u00a0kWh battery<\/strong>\u00a0offers roughly\u00a0<strong data-start=\"3333\" data-end=\"3352\">20\u00a0% more range<\/strong>\u00a0than the 6.5 kWh unit on the original Varg. Stark now claims anywhere from\u00a0<strong data-start=\"3507\" data-end=\"3522\">1.3\u20136\u00a0hours<\/strong>\u00a0of riding depending on conditions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3597\" data-end=\"3861\">\n<p data-start=\"3599\" data-end=\"3861\"><strong data-start=\"3599\" data-end=\"3627\">Lighter, stronger frame:<\/strong>\u00a0A high\u2011strength steel\u2011alloy frame replaces the old chromoly unit. It\u2019s roughly\u00a0<strong data-start=\"3708\" data-end=\"3733\">0.9\u00a0kg (2\u00a0lb) lighter<\/strong>\u00a0and provides refined flex around the shock mount.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3862\" data-end=\"4047\">\n<p data-start=\"3864\" data-end=\"4047\"><strong data-start=\"3864\" data-end=\"3885\">Reworked gearbox:<\/strong>\u00a0The single\u2011speed gearbox has been revised to reduce weight and increase efficiency.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4048\" data-end=\"4257\">\n<p data-start=\"4050\" data-end=\"4257\"><strong data-start=\"4050\" data-end=\"4073\">Updated powertrain:<\/strong>\u00a0Stark tweaked the motor for higher efficiency, which keeps heat down and allows harder riding for longer.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4709\">\n<p data-start=\"4260\" data-end=\"4709\"><strong data-start=\"4260\" data-end=\"4294\">Arkenstone smartphone upgrade:<\/strong>\u00a0The old Varg used a rugged Android phone to display modes and battery status. The\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4378\" data-end=\"4388\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0introduces the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4404\" data-end=\"4424\">Stark\u00a0Arkenstone<\/strong>\u00a0smartphone with better connectivity, processing, brightness and an improved clamping system. A new\u00a0<strong data-start=\"4603\" data-end=\"4615\">Lap Mode<\/strong>\u00a0records GPS\u2011based lap times and real\u2011time course data.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4710\" data-end=\"5156\">\n<p data-start=\"4712\" data-end=\"5156\"><strong data-start=\"4712\" data-end=\"4733\">Tidier electrics:<\/strong>\u00a0The wiring harness is now overmolded for better sealing, and the map switch cable runs internally through the handlebars. Stark also introduced a dual\u2011compound skid plate that\u2019s fully biodegradable and a redesigned chain guide with\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5045\" data-end=\"5077\">266 % more lateral stiffness.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5157\" data-end=\"5433\">\n<p data-start=\"5159\" data-end=\"5433\"><strong data-start=\"5159\" data-end=\"5194\">Suspension valving and options:<\/strong>\u00a0KYB suspension remains but features retuned mid\u2011valve shim stacks. Buyers can choose spring rates based on their weight or even order an enduro\u2011oriented setup.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5434\" data-end=\"5884\">\n<p data-start=\"5436\" data-end=\"5884\"><strong data-start=\"5436\" data-end=\"5468\">Customizations and hardware:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5473\" data-end=\"5483\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0still offers 60\u00a0hp (standard) or 80\u00a0hp (Alpha) versions and adds options for\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5561\" data-end=\"5598\">Dunlop MX34 or Pirelli MX32 tyres<\/strong>, tubes or mousse inserts, foot\u2011lever or hand\u2011lever rear brakes, and three seat\u2011cover grip levels.\u00a0There\u2019s also a titanium hardware package that trims another\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5836\" data-end=\"5844\">2 lb.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"5885\" data-end=\"6325\">\n<p data-start=\"5887\" data-end=\"6325\"><strong data-start=\"5887\" data-end=\"5899\">Pricing:<\/strong>\u00a0The price drops slightly; the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5930\" data-end=\"5940\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0starts at\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5951\" data-end=\"5962\">$12,490<\/strong>\u00a0for the standard (60\u00a0hp) and\u00a0<strong data-start=\"5992\" data-end=\"6003\">$13,490<\/strong>\u00a0for the Alpha model (80 hp), though U.S. buyers must factor in a $1,000 tariff.\u00a0The original Varg debuted around $12,900 (standard) and $13,900 (Alpha), so the new bike costs less than the original did when it first came out. Sadly the Tariff impact has changed the cost dramatically&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"6327\" data-end=\"6342\">Upgrade Path<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"6344\" data-end=\"6481\">Like the original Varg, the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"6372\" data-end=\"6382\">MX\u00a01.2<\/strong>\u00a0is highly tunable with a lot of aftermarket support! However this bike is so good you don&#8217;t need to do anything to it in order to be happy from the get go. So sticking to the basics which would mainly be your touch points goes a long way!<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"6483\" data-end=\"7496\">\n<li data-start=\"6483\" data-end=\"6767\">\n<p data-start=\"6485\" data-end=\"6767\"><strong data-start=\"6485\" data-end=\"6507\">Handlebars:\u00a0<\/strong>In our opinion handlebars are the most important upgrade you can make to any bike. This also comes down to rider preference.
